Former town clerk Judith Beville addressed the board Wednesday to request a standard policy for commemorative street signs, saying recent installations were inconsistent in size and wording.
Beville cited two examples: an original sign honoring Dr. Olivia J. Hooker and a newer sign honoring Millie O’Sheehan. She asked the board to require consistent formatting — for example, adding the word "Way" where appropriate — and to adopt criteria that prioritize people who lived in the community.
Board members acknowledged the request and discussed that the historical-review board and the family of an honoree could be consulted; staff said temporary relocations of signs had occurred because of a corroded pole and that corrected, permanent signage was expected to be installed the following week.
