Bigfork trustees approve 2024-25 cooperative sports agreement with Swan River

The Board of Trustees of Bigfork Elementary School and Bigfork High School on July 30 unanimously approved a 2024-25 Cooperative Sports/Activities Agreement with neighboring Swan River to govern shared athletic programs.
Superintendent Tom Stack told trustees he and Activities Director Matt Porrovecchio negotiated with Swan River leadership and revised the agreement so Swan River coaches’ leave would require administrative approval rather than automatically granting eight days. Trustee Dan Elwell moved to approve the agreement and Trustee Deb Johnson seconded; the motion passed by unanimous vote of the trustees present.
The change narrows automatic leave language and places leave decisions under administrative discretion, a detail the superintendent presented as the outcome of the latest negotiations. Stack also noted scheduling and staffing timelines tied to the agreement: he said fall coaches need to be finalized before the board’s next meeting on Aug. 20 so teams can prepare for the season.
The vote follows routine inter-district cooperation to provide athletics opportunities that smaller districts sometimes manage jointly. The agreement will govern how the districts coordinate coaches, leave and participation for the 2024-25 school year.
