Jen Gustavson and Mandy Faucett said the team ran a "15‑day challenge," which they described as "a full cycle of the PLC process or workflow to focus on one priority standard to go through all four essential questions." The teachers said they identified six crucial priority standards to concentrate on; the other 16 standards will continue to be taught but will not be the focal point of the coaching cycle.
Elementary Principal Brenda Clarke and instructional coach Vicki Heupel supported the presentation, noting the district has used coaching to help teachers apply curriculum materials to classroom instruction. The presenters characterized the district's adopted curriculum as adaptable and useful but said instruction and coaching are the most important elements in improving student outcomes: "It is a great tool, but not the most important part, which is instruction and response," the team said.
The board heard this item as part of routine reports and did not take action on instructional strategy during the meeting. Trustees thanked staff for the work and for involving coaching in day‑to‑day instruction.
