Bigfork School Board adopts naming‑rights policy, approves jazz‑band trips and election resolutions

The Bigfork School District Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a policy on naming district facilities and approved several travel and administrative requests at its Dec. 11 meeting in the high school library.
Superintendent Tom Stack told trustees the district needed a formal policy to permit legal naming rights; trustees approved board policy 8460 on a motion from Trustee Ben Woods, seconded by Trustee Julie Kreiman. The consent agenda, approved earlier in the meeting, included a $5,500 donation to the jazz band from the Kennedy fund and a slate of personnel recommendations for classified, substitute and extracurricular volunteer positions.
High school teacher Mr. Phillips presented two out‑of‑state fieldtrip requests for the newly formed jazz band. Trustees approved a two‑day trip to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, where the band will compete in the small‑school division and attend a Friday night concert, and approved a proposed 2026 New York trip that would include a Broadway performance and a New York Philharmonic concert. Trustees discussed fundraising and booster support; the board approved both trips unanimously.
Superintendent Stack said a Title audit flagged several policies that must be updated to meet Office of Public Instruction (OPI) requirements by Jan. 8; the policies listed for first reading were 3110 (Entrance, Placement and Transfer), 3121 (Enrollment and Attendance Records), and 3122 (Attendance Policy). No substantive comments were recorded during the first reading.
The board also approved election resolutions for Bigfork Elementary and Bigfork High School, which would permit the district to place a levy before voters if the trustees choose to do so. Separately, the board considered an out‑of‑district application to enroll in the district’s life‑skills program. Superintendent Stack said enrollment in that program is capped and recommended denial; on a motion by Trustee Ben Woods, seconded by Trustee Deb Johnson, trustees voted unanimously to deny the request.
