Bloomfield trustees keep leadership, approve MPERA resolution and $4,700 in staff bonuses

At a May 20 meeting, the Bloomfield School Board voted to retain Shawn Walker as board president, appointed Stacy Whitmer as district clerk and approved several administrative actions, including pursuing retirement coverage under an MPERA plan and recommitting to the PVSS Cooperative for the coming fiscal year.

The actions were taken during regularly scheduled business. Shawn Walker moved to maintain the existing board structure with himself as president and Chris as vice president; Natalie Mullet seconded and the motion carried. Shawn Walker then moved to appoint Stacy Whitmer as clerk; Natalie Mullet seconded and the motion carried. The minutes of the April 15 meeting were read and approved on a motion by Natalie Mullet, seconded by Shawn Walker.

Natalie Mullet moved to recommit the district to the PVSS Cooperative for the upcoming fiscal year and to appoint Deanne Smith, the county superintendent, as the district’s representative; Shawn Walker seconded and the motion carried. The board also approved an agency resolution of intention to establish an MPERA plan and to enter into a contract for public employees’ retirement system coverage, on a motion by Mullet and a second by Walker.

The board authorized year-end bonuses totaling $4,700: $500 for Brittany, $400 for Grace, $200 for Melissa, $600 for Anna, and $1,500 each for Katie and Stacy. That motion was made by Shawn Walker, seconded by Natalie Mullet, and recorded as carried. The board approved May warrants on a separate motion (motion carried; vote tallies not specified) and then adjourned.

Deanne Smith is listed to swear in Chris and Stacy before May 30. The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m.
