The MontPIRG item passed on a 4‑3 vote; several regents said the opt‑out mechanism and student initiative deserved support but emphasized adherence to BOR timing rules.
The ASUM activity fee (ITEM 155‑1009‑R0512) was also approved amid debate (motion passed 4‑3). Other consent and action items approved by the board included emeritus faculty recognitions, parking and construction authorizations, the MSU refunding bond issue request, increases in authority for ADA modifications and HPER design and construction, and other campus capital and policy items. Several motions were unanimous (7‑0); notable split votes included a 6‑1 vote for MT Tech HPER expansion and 6‑1 approval for FVCC tuition (with Regent Buchanan recorded as a no vote on select items).
