Lisle resident urges decommissioning of Flock license-plate readers, asks board to register for transparency portal

At the public-comment portion of the July 20 meeting, Chris Pisak urged the Village of Lisle to decommission its Flock license-plate reader system and register for the vendor's transparency portal so residents can view data sharing and statistics.
Pisak said when he examined a transparency portal for another jurisdiction, West Des Moines, the portal reported hundreds of thousands of unique plate reads in 30 days and a long list of data-sharing partners. "There is a transparency portal... I think the board should be aware of and ask for, the boards in addition to decommissioning the system, in the meantime, registering for a transparency portal that is already available to every Flock user," Pisak said. He added that sharing appears to go beyond specific-incident sharing and cautioned that the system has expanded beyond its original scope.
No staff or trustee committed to immediate decommissioning at the meeting; the board did not take formal action on the issue during the session. The comment was entered into the public record and Pisak said he would provide documentation to the clerk.
