Staff and council said the site will improve downtown parking for events and benefit Public Works and the Police Department.
Stormwater asset inspection program: Council approved participation in a Johnson County SMAC-funded stormwater condition assessment program that will CCTV lines in the older town area. Staff said the total program cost is about $375,000 and the city’s share is 50%; the city will use its stormwater fund to provide the match.
KDOT Transportation Alternatives application: Council authorized staff to submit a Transportation Alternatives (TA) application to the Kansas Department of Transportation for a South Street sidewalk project. Staff said rural eligibility allows the city to apply for up to 80% of participating costs; staff estimated the full project roughly at $1,000,000 (the transcript included a numeric transcription error that staff clarified as about $1 million).
Appointments and consent items: Council approved several board appointments (cemetery board, parks advisory board, planning commission) and passed the consent agenda. The council also recessed into three executive sessions to receive advice of counsel and to discuss potential contracts and property acquisition; in each instance staff reported no formal action was taken upon return.
