Neighbor urges board to fix unsafe North 11th entrance to Bozeman High

At the Oct. 14 meeting resident Abigail Brewer delivered a public comment urging the board to address traffic and pedestrian safety at the North 11th entrance to Bozeman High School.
Brewer said the entrance has been unsafe since a 2010 redesign replaced a prior drop‑off area and described repeated piecemeal changes that increased traffic and brought headlights and activity close to neighborhood homes. She referenced a 2017 district‑commissioned traffic study and said the entrance "fails 8 of 21 principles" in an industry meta‑analysis of safe school entry, calling the existing layout a "D minus."
Brewer asked trustees and district leaders to hold the meetings that a district contractor had previously pledged — a forum where concerned neighbors, qualified professionals and district staff could craft and evaluate mitigation options, including lower‑cost measures such as plantings at the parking‑lot edge.
The board did not take immediate action during the public comment portion; staff and trustees acknowledged the concern and said they would follow up on next steps and promised to continue discussions with the community and relevant staff.
