The RW&SD board on Jan. 14 adopted a revised late-payment and shutoff policy that sets tiered late fees and reconnection charges and instructs the secretary to distribute the policy to customers.
Under the adopted schedule, late fees are $7.50 for a first offense, $15 for a second offense and $25 for a third offense. Reconnection fees were set at $100 for a first shutoff during the year and $175 for a second shutoff. The board recorded that customers who had already been shut off before the policy’s adoption would be "grandfathered" and required to pay the previously applicable reconnection fee rather than the higher amount.
The secretary said she had been making courtesy reminder calls but will stop that practice; the only required notice will be the mailed shutoff notice to the address on record. The secretary will include a copy of the updated policy in bills mailed on Jan. 15, post the policy in the district office and add it to the website.
The motion to adopt the policy passed unanimously.
