I will caution you, however, that we've seen this before, and it changes fairly dramatically at some points." The presenter noted that weapons‑involved crime was down compared with 2024 but cautioned some categories had increased. The report also listed training completions — 43 officers completed firearms training and a range of mandatory courses and specialized training — and social‑worker referrals and contacts, including one case assisting a mother to obtain an autism safety kit for a 7‑year‑old who frequently elopes.
On staffing, a police department official said the force numbered 93 sworn officers with 12 openings; one officer is scheduled to start next Monday, and a hiring process is set for August 1 with registration, physical and written testing.
The fire department representative said June had 497 runs and a year‑to‑date total of 3,144, with medical calls followed by service/non‑emergency runs as the top categories. The department has completed 57 smoke‑detector installations so far this year and reported outreach successes including mobile integrated health referrals. The recruit academy remains on track; three recruits recently passed the national EMT registry and graduation is scheduled for August 14 (location to be determined). The operations center bond project is on track for September completion.
Board members asked clarifying questions about training, staffing and procurement items; department staff said large procurement requests for fleet and radio equipment will be brought to the board as part of the replacement cycle. The meeting adjourned after the board approved Resolution 2026‑01 and heard no public communications online.
