Board approves several student trips, ProStart/FCCLA nationals and band trips

The Belgrade School District Board approved a slate of student travel and competition requests, clearing teams and classes to attend regional and national events.
Cross country coach Matt Hallmark asked for approval to attend the Nike Cross Country Regionals in Boise (Nov. 14–17). Hallmark said the trip offers competitive exposure and noted prior students have met college coaches at the event.
The board approved a photography class trip and the AP Biology overnight field‑trip to Yellowstone National Park; administrators said some trips are funded by club/activity funds and, in the case of the AP Biology trip, usually offset with a grant. The board voted to approve an aggregated motion covering cross country, photography and AP Biology travel.
Teachers also presented ProStart and FCCLA national trip requests. ProStart instructor Melanie Young outlined the program’s potential to take students to Baltimore for the ProStart nationals; the board approved the ProStart request. The board approved FCCLA’s request to travel to Orlando for national competition and tabled some BPA and robotics items pending more documentation. The board also approved a music department trip to Spokane and a tri‑state wrestling tournament to Coeur d’Alene.
Board members emphasized travel funding largely comes from activity accounts and fundraising, not the general fund, and several board motions clarified that approval does not guarantee district payment beyond outlined funding sources.
What’s next: For some items (BPA, robotics) the board requested more complete documentation and will revisit them next month.
