Brockton School Board hears districtwide academic achievement presentation; no action taken

The Brockton School Board met in a special session Tuesday at the Brockton School District Office and heard a presentation on districtwide student academic achievement from Principal Evan Cummins and Assistant Principal RaeAnne Edmisten. Chairman Sammy Nygard called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.

Cummins and Edmisten presented the districtwide academic achievement data with Michelle Clawson, an Office of Public Instruction (OPI) School Improvement Specialist, and Tawnya Houghton, a school support consultant, present for discussion. The presentation was informational; the board did not take any formal action on the materials presented.

Board members outlined public-comment rules at the start of the meeting, noting that speakers should not raise pending legal matters, private personnel issues or private student matters; no members of the public addressed the trustees during the public-comment portion. Josh Patterson, superintendent, and Cheri Nygard, district clerk, were also present.

At 1:26 p.m., Trustee Rae Jean Belgarde moved to adjourn; Trustee Terry Rattling Thunder seconded. The clerk recorded the vote as "three for, none opposed," and the motion carried. The minutes show the board was adjourned and attested by Chair Sammy Nygard.

The presentation was designated informational only; no follow-up motion or staff direction was recorded in the meeting minutes. The board did not schedule further action on the academic data during the special session.
