Principal reports improved classroom engagement after Yondr cell-phone pouch rollout

Principal Evan Cummins reported to the Brockton School Board that the school’s Yondr cell-phone pouch policy has coincided with improved classroom engagement and fewer disruptions.
“Better engagement in the classroom, more talking amongst the students...less disruptions in the school day,” Cummins told trustees while summarizing attendance, discipline and current events. Trustee Wilfred Lambert asked about the policy’s measured results; Cummins and trustees noted in-school suspension remains an option this year and said ISS has been more effective as students adjust to the phone restriction.
Board members asked staff to continue monitoring outcomes and to bring comparative practices from other districts back to a future meeting for discussion. The board did not take formal action on the cell-phone policy at this meeting; the item was discussed as part of the principal’s report and will remain under administrative review.
Separately, trustees asked superintendent and staff to research how the district handles diplomas and graduation participation for students who complete the Montana Youth Challenge Academy and earn a HiSET, with a return to the agenda at a future meeting.
