Brockton School Board appoints temporary clerk, approves hires and renews MTSBA membership

The Brockton School Board of Trustees met in a special session July 31 and approved a slate of personnel actions and a membership renewal.
Superintendent Josh Patterson recommended appointing Amy Heller as the district’s temporary Clerk of the Board; Trustee RaeJean Belgarde moved to approve the recommendation, Wilfred Lambert seconded, and the motion carried 4-0. Patterson then recommended hiring Cheri' Nygard as the district Business Manager. Trustee Wilfred Lambert moved to approve that hiring recommendation and Trustee RaeJean Belgarde seconded; the motion carried 3-0 with Chairman Sammy Nygard recorded as abstaining from the vote.
Patterson also recommended three teacher hires: William Sorteberg for Industrial Arts, Chello Abello for 7th-8th grade ELA/Social Studies, and Frank Stearns for 7th-12th special education. Wilfred Lambert moved to approve the three hires in a single motion, RaeJean Belgarde seconded, and the board approved the hires 4-0.
The board then considered membership renewal with the Montana School Boards Association. Patterson presented additional information requested at the board’s regular July meeting; Lambert moved to accept the quote to renew the district’s MTSBA membership, Belgarde seconded, and the motion carried 4-0.
With no further business, Trustee Wilfred Lambert moved to adjourn; the motion carried 4-0 and the meeting ended at 6:09 P.M.
The special meeting minutes list trustees Sammy Nygard (chairman), RaeJean Belgarde, Terry Rattling Thunder and Wilfred Lambert as present, with Trustee Olivia Johnson absent. No public comments or visitors were recorded.
