The Village of Greenfield Council on July 6 adopted two zoning ordinances affecting minimum lot-size definitions and garage construction rules.
Chairwoman Amie Ernst read the measures during a public hearing opened at 7:49 p.m.; no members of the public spoke about the ordinances. Ordinance No. 17-2026, which revises the minimum lot-size coverage for areas defined as “suburban,” was adopted on a motion by Councilwoman Margaret Mobley and seconded by Chairwoman Amie Ernst, with the vote recorded as yea 2 (Mobley, Ernst). The ordinance was declared duly adopted. Ordinance No. 19-2026, amending Section 1105.27(b)(4) of the Codified Ordinances to change restrictions on the construction of garages on residential lots, was likewise carried on a 2–0 vote (moved by Mobley; seconded by Ernst) and was duly adopted.
A citizen asked about permitted garage sizes and materials during the reading of Ordinance 19-2026; Chairwoman Ernst said the amendment will be less restrictive on such parameters. The council also read, but did not act on, Ordinance No. 23-2026, a separate proposal amending the Employee Handbook to extend probationary periods for new employees.
Why it matters: the ordinances alter zoning rules that affect property owners and developers in suburban neighborhoods and change what residential garage construction will be allowed. The public hearing record shows no oral opposition at this meeting; matters tied to DORA and other zoning questions were noted for future hearings.
Next steps: Ordinance No. 17-2026 was adopted as read; the council did not adopt Ordinance No. 23-2026 at this meeting. Members did not record any further amendments during the session.
