The environmental health director presented a proposed fee schedule for 2027 that would raise most food-program fees by about 5 percent while reducing vending fees to reflect market shifts toward micro-markets.
Staff said the proposed increases aim to recover program costs without creating undue burdens on local operators; an exception would be a larger fee for expedited plan reviews, which the director said is a discretionary service that allows applicants to ‘‘jump the line’’ for faster turnaround. Pool fees were also proposed to rise.
Board members discussed the rationale and comparisons with other local health departments. The director noted that nonprofit organizations can be charged lower fees depending on risk and service type, and that staff review considered fees charged by neighboring jurisdictions before proposing increases.
The board agreed by consensus to move the proposed fee schedule forward for further review and did not take an adoption vote at the meeting. Staff said they will bring a finalized ordinance or resolution back for formal action after the review process is complete.
