The Town of Redington Shores on Aug. 14 authorized Administrator McGlothlin to submit an application of interest for the FEMA Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant and extended the consultant RFP period to up to 45 days.
Administrator McGlothlin told commissioners he had received no consultant responses to date and outlined three options: table the item, continue the search for a consultant or assign the project to a potential full‑time grants manager that could be filled by the current deputy clerk. Commissioners debated the need to secure the grant within the current cycle and the appropriate RFP window for consultant responses.
Vice Mayor Commissioner Licata moved that Administrator McGlothlin submit an application of interest and open the RFP for up to 45 days; Mayor Lisa Hendrickson seconded the amended motion. The board voted unanimously in favor.
Commissioner CJ Hoyt and others emphasized that, if the town pursues an in‑house grants manager, the hire should be an experienced professional and that staff should bring forward pay‑study and hiring‑process options. Attorney Eschenfelder advised retaining the existing 30‑day RFP period as the default but allowing an extension if needed; commissioners ultimately moved to authorize up to 45 days.
Two members of the public commented in support of a longer application window. Marie Palena urged more time to attract consultants and to ensure a qualified consultant is hired; Ryan Keen also spoke in favor of a 45‑day window and encouraged staff to consider all grant opportunities.
