Commission approves code tweak to allow massing of street trees in rural street sections

The De Soto Planning Commission approved a text amendment that allows the city to use a "rural street section" standard permitting massing of required street trees rather than requiring evenly spaced plantings for large rural lots.
Staff said the change would not reduce the total number of trees required but would give developers flexibility to group trees in ways that better fit rural street design. "We'd still require the same amount of trees, but we'd give the developer the ability to mass them together," the planner explained.
The item was a public hearing matter but no public speakers addressed this amendment at the meeting. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the text change on roll call; the amendment will go to City Council for final action if required by the code amendment process.
