EDA awards demolition contract for 4510 Taylor St NE to Semple Excavating at $22,799

At its June 1 meeting, the Columbia Heights Economic Development Authority accepted the low bid from Semple Excavating & Trucking for demolition and site clearance of 4510 Taylor St NE. The contract amount is $22,799; the motion to accept the proposal passed with all ayes of those present.
Community Development Director Mitchell Forney said staff solicited demolition bids and received six proposals. The EDA separately completed required environmental testing and staff reported no significant hazardous materials beyond typical household appliance items requiring proper disposal. The selected contractor will perform demolition of the primary structure, remove outbuildings and obstructive trees, properly dispose of hazardous items and cap water and sewer services per City requirements, and prepare the lot for future redevelopment.
The EDA authorized the President and Executive Director to enter into an agreement with Semple Excavating & Trucking. Forney said the parcel is intended for redevelopment with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, and the demolition will prepare the site for a new single-family home. No additional public comment was recorded.
