Brandon McWhorter sworn in and selected as mayor; Derek Camann named vice mayor

At the May 28 meeting the Village Commission administered the oath to Brandon McWhorter following his April election, and commissioners unanimously elected McWhorter mayor and Derek Camann vice mayor; Commissioner Amanda Updike declined consideration for leadership roles.
Brandon McWhorter was sworn in to a new three-year term for Commission Seat 2 and then unanimously elected mayor by the Village Commission at a regular meeting on May 28.
Village Clerk Blair Updike administered the oath of office to McWhorter following roll call. During nominations for mayor and vice mayor, Commissioner Amanda Updike stated she did not want to be considered for either role. Mayor McWhorter nominated himself to serve as mayor; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Derek Camann and passed on a 3-0 roll call vote (McWhorter, Updike, Camann). Mayor McWhorter then moved to nominate Derek Camann as vice mayor; that motion was seconded and likewise passed unanimously.
The commission also approved routine consent items and adjourned after brief announcements. City Manager Ric Busbee told the commission a water rate study is underway with the Florida Rural Water Association and budget discussions for FY 2025-26 are upcoming. The commission canceled a scheduled June 25 work session and set its next regular meeting for July 23, 2025.
