Heritage Pines board approves $19,200 Premier Lakes contract to treat pond algae

The Heritage Pines Community Development District board voted unanimously Oct. 15 to hire Premier Lakes, Inc. to provide pond algae treatment at an annual cost of $19,200, a $3,200-per-year savings compared with the current SOLitude contract.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented the Premier Lakes proposal and said he would initiate SOLitude's 30-day termination clause so SOLitude's services would end Nov. 30 and Premier Lakes would begin Dec. 1. Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude uses; Adams said it is a copper-based product that targets algae and that any odor results from algae degasification that typically lasts a couple of days.
On motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh, seconded by Assistant Secretary Carol Vaughan, the board approved the Premier Lakes, Inc. proposal for pond algae treatment in the amount of $19,200. The motion passed "with all in favor"; no roll-call votes were recorded in the minutes.
Adams told the board the Premier Lakes proposal was delivered to him by email the night before and described the switch as an overall cost savings compared with the SOLitude contract. He also said he would contact SOLitude about its performance and indicated he thought it reasonable to hold SOLitude 50% responsible for prior performance issues.
The board directed that the Premier Lakes report include more detailed pond-treatment information than was provided by SOLitude going forward. The meeting also recorded related routine business, including acceptance of unaudited financial statements for Aug. 31, 2024, and approval of amended meeting minutes from Sept. 17, 2024.
The board will meet next on Dec. 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
