Golden Grain Pizza allowed temporary signage; pylon sign deferred pending DOT review

The Zoning Board on July 20 considered a signage application from Golden Grain Pizza at 585 Hoosick Road and agreed the applicant may keep two wall signs while the planning and zoning review continues; a proposed freestanding (pylon) sign was deferred because the board learned the pylon sits within NYSDOT right-of-way.
An applicant representative said two wall signs on the west side would help motorists see the business from Oneida/Hoosick approaches; the application originally included a third freestanding pylon sign, but the board’s review discovered the pylon may be on property taken for the state road and requires DOT guidance.
The applicant covered the additional signs with black plastic pending review; the board agreed to allow a temporary promotional sign in the short term and scheduled a public hearing for the signage application on August 17 at 6 p.m. so the public may weigh in. Board members said the applicant may remove or re-cover signs if neighbors complain before the hearing.
The board characterized the wall-sign portion of the application as the item currently before the board and put the DOT-controlled pylon sign aside until the town receives DOT direction.
