Town officials announced during the July 20 moratorium meeting that the New York State bed-tax legislation has passed both the State Senate and Assembly and is awaiting the governor’s signature.
The Moderator (S2) told attendees the town’s plan for bed-tax proceeds is to direct some of the funds toward policing in areas with hotel-related issues. “The bed tax has passed in the senate and the assembly in New York. We're just waiting for the governor to sign it,” S2 said, adding the town’s estimate of available revenue is in the range of $300,000 to $600,000.
Officials said the funds would likely support increased police presence and other responses in the hotel corridor, and that final decisions about allocations will follow once the governor signs and the actual revenue is confirmed. No formal appropriation or vote occurred at the meeting.
The town will report back with confirmed figures and proposed allocations after the state executive acts and local staff provide precise revenue estimates.
