Sheboygan County Transportation Committee approves five-year capital plan, equipment purchases and land acquisitions and conducts road tour

At its July 6, 2026 meeting in Plymouth, the Sheboygan County Transportation Committee approved its Five-Year Capital Plan, authorized multiple equipment purchases and approved two land acquisitions. Chairman Jacqueline Veldman called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.; motions on each item were made and recorded as "motion carried."

The committee approved routine items early in the session. Supervisor Thomas Wegner moved to approve the minutes of June 15, 2026; Supervisor Jay Vander Weele seconded, and the motion carried. Supervisor Jon Kuhlow moved to approve the vouchers; Supervisor Vander Weele seconded, and that motion carried. The committee also approved Chairman Veldman’s attendance at the Transportation Department’s July 2026 budget meeting on a motion by Supervisor Thomas Wegner and a second by Supervisor Jay Vander Weele.

Airport Manager Matt Grenoble updated the committee on activities at the Sheboygan County Memorial International Airport; the minutes note the update but do not include operational or financial specifics. Transportation Director Bryan Olson provided an update on Highway Division activities later in the meeting; the minutes again record the update without detailed figures.

On departmental planning and acquisitions, the committee approved the Transportation Department’s Five-Year Capital Plan on a motion from Supervisor Thomas Wegner, seconded by Supervisor Jon Kuhlow. The committee also approved an equipment purchase from Wisconsin Surplus (motion by Supervisor Vern Koch, seconded by Supervisor Jay Vander Weele), a headcount exception to add an Office Coordinator (motion by Supervisor Jay Vander Weele, seconded by Supervisor Vern Koch), and the purchase of equipment planned for 2027 (motion by Supervisor Jon Kuhlow, seconded by Supervisor Jay Vander Weele). In each case the minutes record "motion carried."

The committee approved two land acquisitions: one purchase from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (motion by Supervisor Vern Koch, seconded by Supervisor Jay Vander Weele) and a purchase of land at the corner of State Highway 28 and County Road "U" (motion by Supervisor Jon Kuhlow, seconded by Supervisor Thomas Wegner). At 10:00 a.m. committee members conducted a road tour that began at W5741 County Road J in Plymouth and included stops at County Road J at Crystal Lake, the County Road C and County Road TT roundabout reconstruction project, the County Road OO reconstruction project and the Highway Division South Side Shed at 7614 Frontage Road (County Road OK). The members returned at 12:20 p.m.
