Missoula to seek remaining 2006 open-space bond funds for conservation easement near Bluebird preserve

Parks and open-space staff presented a proposal to apply remaining 2006 open-space bond funds to a previously approved conservation-easement project and to use 2018 bond funds for a separate approved Hayden Grass Valley easement.
Zach Covington, open-space manager, said staff had been trying to bundle smaller projects to spend out the older bond dollars and recommended applying the remaining 2006 funds to the Interland Laval/Gravel Creek conservation easement while utilizing 2018 funds for the Hayden Grass Valley project. Covington described an adjacent Bluebird preserve and increasing demand for trails in the area, noting recent trail construction and local use.
The broadcast said the donation would add roughly 24 acres of conserved land north of the Bluebird preserve and noted the donation is a full conservation easement conveyance for conservation purposes; no purchase price was reported because the easement would be donated. Staff said the open-space board that oversees both city and county allocations would be involved in finalizing fund uses.
