Staff reported that most of the trees for the existing re-leaf program have already been planted. Commissioners debated whether the program should be opened or adapted to encourage business participation — for example, by adding a business-focused streetscape option modeled on the Florida Streetscape Program — but made no formal motion to change eligibility at the meeting.
Commissioners also discussed distributing the Louisiana Native Plant Resource Guide to the public. It was agreed that once printed materials are available the commission will provide brochures and post a link to the guide on the Parks and Parkways page of the city website to support native-plant selection and invasive-species awareness.
The commission did not take a formal vote on expanding program eligibility during the meeting; next steps include developing outreach materials and further discussion at a future meeting.
