DJJ staff gives R/ED update; JJAB outlines outreach and youth engagement plans

Tara Kelly, a Department of Juvenile Justice staff member, presented an update on R/ED collaboration across Kentucky and said the program will receive increased support in the coming year.
Carly Gill told members that she created an online form for those interested in attending the CJJ 2025 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., May 27–31, 2025, to streamline approvals for out-of-state travel. Dr. Deonte Hollowell expressed interest in submitting a workshop proposal for Tara Kelly to present Kentucky’s R/ED plan at the conference.
Committee updates noted that SEJAY will begin listening sessions in May as part of efforts to recruit and uplift youth, and Emerging Leaders has partnered with Iowa EL and Raven–Wanda Joyce to recruit youth and provide engagement resources; Emerging Leaders also launched a Facebook page to offer resources to youth.
Kristy Flippins-Bartlett delivered the Youth Voice update. During the public forum, no public comments were offered.
The board recorded no formal votes on funding or policy during the update; next steps include the workgroup to draft the Community Partnership subcommittee scope and the April meeting in Louisville, where staff and stakeholders will present additional details.
