JJAB keeps Capacity Building Subcommittee, forms workgroup to draft Community Partnership scope

The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board at its Feb. 21 meeting in Frankfort decided to retain the Capacity Building Subcommittee in its current form and create a separate workgroup to develop the scope for a proposed Community Partnership Subcommittee.
Board members noted a DJJ staff proposal to fold capacity-building efforts into a broader Community Partnership Subcommittee that would consolidate stakeholders to expand Title II grant subawards across the state. After discussion and reference to the JJAB bylaws, members agreed to preserve the existing Capacity Building Subcommittee and form a workgroup to draft a scope and plan for the Community Partnership body.
Jansen Hammock volunteered to chair the workgroup; volunteers who agreed to join include Matthew Reed, Laura Karem, Ashely Clark, Elzie Burgher and Donna Simmons. The workgroup’s goal is to present a proposed scope and plan at the JJAB’s April meeting in Louisville. Carly Gill will circulate meeting invitations and logistics for the April session.
The board also recorded that Executive Director Christina Weeter will send minute updates to Carly Gill. A motion to approve the October minutes was made by Dr. George Moorman and seconded by Laura Karem; the motion carried. Donna Simmons volunteered to chair the Capacity Building Subcommittee, and Dr. David Finke said he would contact members to encourage volunteers to chair the Grants Subcommittee. The board scheduled its next meeting for June 20, 2025, at 1 p.m., with the April meeting confirmed for April 11, 2025, in Louisville pending venue arrangements.
