Rothbury council declines county Flock camera trial, adopts DNR grant terms and approves summer meals

Village President Vern Talmadge presided over the Rothbury Village Council meeting on April 15, where members unanimously voted to decline an Oceana County Sheriff's Department request to install Flock Cameras on a trial basis within village limits.
The motion to reject the camera trial was made by Council member Denise Kurdziel and seconded by Council member Autum Drake; the vote was 7 ayes, 0 nays. The council did not record further conditions or a follow-up study request in the meeting record.
The council also adopted a resolution to accept the terms of a grant from the Department of Natural Resources. Brandy Williams, clerk, updated the council on grant proceedings with the DNR and consultant Prein & Newhof. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Council member Dylan Zuniga, seconded by Council member Denise Kurdziel, and passed 7-0.
Clerk Brandy Williams announced that the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., noting that the golden eggs will return as part of the event. The council approved a request to allow the Montague Summer Meals program to operate in Village Hall again this summer; the motion by Autum Drake, seconded by Denise Kurdziel, carried 7-0.
Public works updates included DPW Director Scott Beishuizen's report that the park restrooms have been opened and spring projects will begin as weather allows. Beishuizen also reported the village has received a quote from the Oceana County Road Commission for chip-and-seal work on Michigan Avenue, estimated at roughly $63,000; no award or payment authorization for that work was recorded in the minutes.
Council member Mike Harris moved to pay the monthly bills, a motion seconded by Jim Fekken; the council approved the payment 7-0. RCC Director Deb Murphy reported bookings at the RCC are full for June and July. Council Member Denise Kurdziel reviewed the DNR grant timeline before the council adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
