Contractor, engineer and residents discuss lakes, drainage and post-storm repairs at River Ridge CDD meeting

Contractors and the district engineer updated the River Ridge Community Development District Board on lake maintenance and stormwater issues at the Aug. 27 meeting, and residents raised site-specific concerns about standing water and mold.
Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes said "the lakes appear to be in very good shape," and reported crews removed fallen trees from the Florida Power & Light ditch and outfall structure ahead of an impending tropical storm. He said repairs to the Lake H1-B nano-bubbler—lost when the unit turned off and lost prime—would be completed the next day, and Premier Lakes increased service frequency from quarterly to monthly during the rainy season. Mr. Kurth also noted that Mr. Shane Willis and Mr. Alex Kurth will present proposals for the electrical work needed to relocate a compressor in the Masters Lake.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs provided an update on the MRI project to replace Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates, saying the work is about 80% complete; he said he would follow up with scheduling for the asphalt patch. Mr. Krebs reported the stormwater system largely flowed but reached capacity during Tropical Storm Debbie, noting some parts of the community received nearly 8 inches of rain over two to three days while roads are designed for 5½ inches in 24 hours. He suggested the Club could add a drainage connection to Lake E1-A to bypass pipes and inlets and reduce surface ponding in a low-lying Club property area.
A resident reported standing water coming up through a slab and feared mold in their unit. Mr. Krebs said he does not believe the standing water is the cause because other units did not report similar issues; Chair Bob Schultz asked Mr. Long to provide further comment and requested the matter be placed on the next agenda. Resident Christine Mantilia asked whether fire trucks could draw water from the lakes to lower levels; Mr. Krebs replied that is not typical, could harm plants and aquatic life, and would require approval from the South Florida Water Management District.
Other operational items: Mrs. Cleo Adams said she is working with accounting to reconcile 2022A and 2022B notes and will update a report to include MRI Construction Proposal CB131 to block one end of a drainage pipe; Mr. Shane Willis said Mr. Long is scheduling staff training for the speed sign project and will provide an update at the next meeting. Residents were asked to provide photographs of conservation-area concerns to help staff evaluate maintenance requests.
The board took no formal policy action on the maintenance items; staff and contractors will follow up with scheduled repairs, proposals, and additional documentation to the board.
