Fairgrove council approves roof bid, several payments and tables employee-discipline decision

The Village of Fairgrove council on July 6 approved several maintenance and vendor payments, accepted a contractor bid for the fire department roof and postponed a personnel decision until the full board can vote.
At the meeting changed to July 6 at 6:30 p.m., council members R. Thomas, Harrison, Spencer and K. Young (Sebert absent) approved the agenda and minutes from June 1, 2026 before moving into department reports and motions. Key votes included acceptance of a Men of Many Trade roof bid for the fire department and multiple payments for public-works and village obligations.
Why it matters: the approvals fund routine infrastructure and public-safety upkeep that village officials said are necessary to maintain services. The vote to delay a personnel decision means no disciplinary outcome will be issued until a full board is present, prolonging the matter.
The council voted to accept the Men of Many Trade roof work for the fire department; minutes record a down payment and a total bill of $12,465.00. The motion was moved by R. Thomas and carried on a roll call vote with R. Thomas, Harrison, Spencer and K. Young voting yes; one member (Sebert) was absent.
Other approved expenditures included a $3,000 payment for the completed DPW well project and a $3,750 payment to AF Lagoon. The council approved only the bridge-painting portion of the CAT B project rather than the entire package. The check register was accepted and the council approved payment to Spicer for $4,034.00 and to the Municipal League (MML) for $1,726.00.
During audience recognition a property owner raised concerns about an incomplete blight cleanup; council members referred the matter to the ordinance officer for follow-up. Fire Department representative R. Coleman reported on training, a returned generator, an Anheuser-Busch water grant the department received and plans to advertise for recruits; volunteers will hold a pancake breakfast Sept. 6 at 8:00 a.m.
The council entered a closed session at 7:07 p.m. to discuss an employee-discipline matter and reconvened at 7:26 p.m. After the closed session, R. Thomas moved to table any decision until the full board is present; the motion was seconded by Harrison and carried on a roll call vote with the four present members voting yes.
The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m. The council posted the meeting notice on July 13, 2026; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 3, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
