Rothbury council adopts 1% tax collection administrative fee, accepts Planning Commission resignation and handles routine business

At its July 15 meeting the Rothbury Village Council adopted a resolution to collect a 1% administrative fee associated with tax collection. The motion was made by Council member Mike Harris, seconded by Jim Fekken, and passed unanimously, 7–0.
The council accepted a resignation from Planning Commission member Chris Oracz, who is moving from the area. The resignation was accepted on a motion by Autum Drake, seconded by Denise Kurdziel, and approved 7–0. Council members were told the Planning Commission meeting was run by Carol Witzke in Mike Harris’s absence and that future Planning Commission meetings will be held at 6:00 PM on the same dates.
The council also voted to pay the bills (motion by Mike Harris, seconded by Jim Fekken; passed 7–0). DPW Director Scott Beishuizen presented the DPW report for the month. Council discussed including the ethics policy in the draft employee handbook and tabled that discussion until the August meeting to allow additional review time with the intent to adopt the completed handbook then.
Treasurer Deb Murphy asked council to gather more information about investing village funds in higher-yield options such as Michigan CLASS to build a cushion for village finances; no decision was recorded at this meeting. Police Chief Ethan Walker delivered the monthly police report summarizing activity in and near Electric Forest, and Deb Murphy reported the community center is busy with bookings and receiving positive feedback. The meeting adjourned at 7:58 PM.
