KDE reports SEEK funding shortfall for 2024–25, urges legislative engagement

FRANKFORT — Associate Commissioner Matt Ross and Division Director Chay Ritter told the Kentucky Board of Education on Feb. 6 that KDE is projecting a SEEK program funding shortfall for the 2024–2025 school year.
Ross described the shortfall’s existence and Ritter explained factors contributing to the gap, emphasizing the importance of accurate district data in the budgeting process. Both presenters said KDE will continue ongoing communication with the Kentucky General Assembly to address funding gaps and data corrections.
Board members did not take formal action on SEEK at the meeting; KDE staff said they will bring further analysis and background as part of the department’s budget discussions in March.
