Erin Lucas, who leads MTSS work at the high school, presented the district's multi-tiered system of supports and told the board how the district is identifying and intervening with students who are academically or behaviorally at risk.
"Tier 1 is something that we offer to all students," Lucas said, walking trustees through the three-tier model: universal supports for all students; tier-2 small-group, targeted interventions and monitored check-ins; and tier-3 intensive supports that rely on community partners for counseling or placement when necessary. She described weekly MTSS reports (red/yellow/gray coding) that go to teachers, counselors, students and families and showed how red-coded students trigger direct outreach, conference calls and SAP or other supports.
Lucas highlighted practical interventions: working lunches, targeted shore periods where students rotate through teachers for one-on-one support, after-school enrichment, and SAP referrals with parental permission. She said the program has grown quickly and credited teachers, counselors and community partners for their cooperation and positive parent responses.
Trustees commended the presentation and encouraged continued use of data to refine interventions; Lucas invited board members to observe MTSS in action during Shore periods.
What happens next: The district will continue to refine MTSS and the administrative team plans to increase teacher collaboration time next year to analyze keystone and building data.
