FGCU to implement annual conflict-of-interest disclosures and distribute trustee ethics training

Precious Gunter, FGCU’s Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer and Title IX Coordinator, told the Audit & Compliance Committee on May 29 that recent state law changes required the Board of Trustees to revise how conflicts of interest are identified and managed. She said the University will implement an annual Conflict of Interest Disclosure process and distribute an attestation form and training materials following the June 10 full Board meeting.
"The Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form was shared with and approved by Chair Fogg; however, it was not yet distributed to the full Board," Gunter said. She explained staff will be available to assist trustees in completing the form and said she preferred not to use committee meeting time for form completion because it is an information item.
Gunter said the required annual ethics training will be distributed concurrently with the disclosure materials and that training content will include information about the new disclosure requirements. Chair Joseph Fogg asked whether the committee wished to review the form before distribution; no committee member asked to review a draft, and the committee proceeded to the next agenda items.
The Conflict of Interest Disclosure process and ethics training are information items; no committee action was required beyond noting the plan to distribute materials and offer assistance to trustees. Gunter said staff would answer questions and ensure identified conflicts were addressed before or after materials are submitted.
