FGCU moves to align programs with state metrics, approves M.B.A. in Business Analytics

The Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees voted April 8 to adopt the university’s 2025 Accountability Plan and to approve a new Master of Business Administration in Business Analytics, measures the administration said would better align FGCU programs with state Performance‑Based Funding (PBF) metrics and regional workforce needs.
Interim Provost Tony Barringer told trustees the M.B.A. in Business Analytics required only one course adjustment from the existing M.B.A. and was designed to meet demand shown in state and regional labor data. He said first‑year enrollment is expected at about 30 students and five‑year enrollment could exceed 100. "Most students surveyed said they would have chosen the M.B.A. in Business Analytics if it had been offered," Barringer said.
Vice President Eileen DeLuca walked trustees through the Scorecard tool used to monitor PBF metrics. She explained the distinction between the Scorecard’s status reporting and the University’s internal forecast line. Trustees pressed on Metric 6 — the percentage of bachelor’s degrees awarded within Programs of Strategic Emphasis (PSE) — which is expected to decline after the Board of Governors updated the PSE list. Barringer said the PSE list revision reduced FGCU’s projected Metric 6 goal and that FGCU is balancing state-level PSE guidance with regional workforce needs.
Trustee Robbie Roepstorff moved approval of the M.B.A.; Trustee Leo Montgomery seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Trustee Luis Rivera moved the Accountability Plan; Trustee Edward Morton seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Next steps outlined by administration include submitting the new program materials to the Board of Governors and implementing admissions and tracking enrollment and PSE designation. The Board scheduled additional discussion of student success metrics at a June 10 workshop.
