Town seeks new ambulance representative; ambulance ran 13 calls and fire department logged eight in May

The Town of Townsend announced that it needs to fill its representative position to the regional ambulance board after the recent passing of Tom Derrickson. The representative meets monthly with Lakewood and ambulance officials to conduct business; residents interested in the role were asked to contact the Town of Townsend.
Janet O’Piela reported 13 ambulance runs in May and said planning is under way for Weinerfest and raffle donations. She added that EMS training will be scheduled in the fall at Riverview. Fire Department Chief Herlache reported eight calls in May, said the department continues to apply for grants, and reminded residents: "Make sure to have a burn permit. Check the DNR website before you burn."
Friends of Townsend Fire reported awarding two scholarships to Wabeno seniors and continuing fundraising work for summer events. The board tabled the long-term ambulance benefits package for further consideration.
The board did not take formal action to appoint a replacement at this meeting; interested residents were instructed to contact town officials about serving as the ambulance representative.
