Town of Townsend approves 2026–27 liquor licenses and 52 operator permits, holds one application pending court

At its June 9 meeting the Town of Townsend board approved nine 2026–27 liquor licenses and 52 operator licenses, holding one operator application (applicant #6) pending a court outcome; the board also approved temporary permits for Fourth of July events.
Clerk Linda Ziegler presented the board with nine businesses seeking 2026–27 liquor licenses and 53 operator license applications at the Town of Townsend regular meeting on June 9.
Chairperson Monica Zeller moved to approve the nine liquor licenses; the motion was seconded by Supervisor Chuck DeMoulin and was adopted. The board then considered operator applications. The packet noted applicant #6 has been charged with a felony, OWI and driving without insurance and has a pending court date. Supervisor Chuck DeMoulin moved to approve 52 operator applications, hold applicant #6 pending the court decision, and authorize Clerk Linda Ziegler to honor approved applications for 30 days; the motion was seconded by Zeller and adopted.
The board also approved two temporary alcohol beverage licenses for Fourth of July events — Friends of Townsend Fire and Townsend Festival, Inc. — after Ziegler presented the applications and background checks. The approval of the temporary permits was moved by DeMoulin, seconded by Willie Evans, and carried.
Those votes followed routine procedural approvals at the start of the meeting: Zeller’s motion to approve the agenda (with deletion of item #3), and DeMoulin’s motion to accept minutes from May 12. Treasurer Beth Hartman gave the financial report earlier in the meeting and a motion was approved to pay bills.
No individual roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes beyond motions being made, seconded and approved. The town clerk will hold the flagged operator application until the pending court matter is resolved.
