City staff updates Planning Commission on McKinley Parkway feasibility and local building activity

City Administrator Phil Kern provided updates on activity in the Delano West Metro Business Park and other local projects at the May 11 meeting. Kern said the City is in the feasibility stage for the McKinley Parkway extension, which would extend the roadway south through the business park to County Road 30, and that construction is anticipated in 2028 or 2029.
Kern said Tuffy's is planning an approximately 60,000‑square‑foot expansion; West End Condos is constructing a third building with foundations in place for a fourth; Cemstone has broken ground on a new facility and plans to be operational later in the year; and Olsen Chain and Cable recently opened within the business park. Kern also noted that one lot created through the Fourth Addition plat is already under contract and that proposed concept includes 5,000–10,000 square‑foot business warehouse condominiums.
Kern said that at the current pace of development, the remaining business park lots could be sold within the next several years. Commissioners were informed that at least one application related to the Patio/Jerome Event Center downtown is anticipated for the June Planning Commission meeting.
