Delano commission outlines sesquicentennial activities and sets April 11 neighborhood clean-up

Commissioner Michelle Dirckx updated the Spirit of Community Commission on Delano’s sesquicentennial planning, reporting that the Feb. 11 birthday event drew more than 150 attendees and outlining upcoming activities including a vintage pinewood derby, a buy-a-brick deadline, an SQ apparel store and a book-launch party.
"The February 11 birthday event went very well, with 150+ attendees," Dirckx reported. The commission discussed logistics and promotion for upcoming events.
Community Enrichment Director Nick Neaton said the City is planning a neighborhood clean-up for April 11 and will provide trash bags and trash pick-up service; he said staff will contact National Night Out hosts and other neighborhood organizers to encourage participation. "The City is planning on April 11 for the neighborhood clean-up day," Neaton said.
City Council Liaison Todd Belz reported Council business including a meeting with DMU that discussed a possible new well, presentation of Heritage Center first-floor renovation plans, and that staff will go out for bids on a mass-grading plan for the new community park. Commissioner Linda Althoff said the Chamber is planning a Community Expo for May 9 to coincide with Baseball Day.
The commission did not take formal votes on sesquicentennial programming at this meeting but recorded updates and set the clean-up date for volunteer coordination.
