Delano’s new BIO Girls chapter presented its inaugural season to the City Council on June 2, reporting a 12‑week program focused on mental health, confidence, healthy relationships and coping skills for girls in grades two through six.
Community Enrichment Director Nick Neaton introduced Andrea Anderson of Delano BIO Girls. Anderson said the inaugural season began in February, reached its maximum enrollment of 40 participants with 10 mentors, and included mentorship, service projects such as creating kindness rocks and visits to Delano Legacy residents, and training for a season‑ending 5K. A video recap of the season and the 5K was shown to the Council.
Anderson said the program runs February through May and that participants who complete sixth grade may return as junior mentors. The program drew students from multiple schools and homeschool families, which staff said created opportunities for new friendships and connections. Councilmembers commended the program and asked about scheduling and mentor continuity.
The presentation was informational; no Council action was required.
