Delano Public Safety Commission approves minutes, welcomes new member and hears updates on gunshots, speed study and snow/ice control

The Delano Public Safety Commission approved the October 6, 2025 meeting minutes by voice motion at its March 2, 2026 meeting. Commissioner Greg Keller moved to approve the minutes and Commissioner Tom Lowery seconded; the motion carried (no tally recorded).
Tom Lowery introduced himself as a newly seated commission member. Lowery said he is retired from law enforcement and fire service with more than 30 years of experience and that he has two certified therapy dogs for first responders through Soldiers 6. Lowery offered that support to Delano and neighboring fire and law enforcement agencies.
Vice Chair Christopher Van Schooneveld reported there were no new updates on the earlier reports of gunshots at two homes. The commission also heard that a speed study on Shadywood Lane will be completed after the snow season. City Council Liaison Jason Franzen said he is scheduling a snow/ice control review for an upcoming council workshop and, in response to Commissioner Tapie’s concern about uncleared sidewalks in some areas, said he would ask Public Works Director Shawn about the division of responsibilities at the next council meeting. The transcript does not record a response from Public Works or further detail on sidewalk enforcement or timelines.
