Delano council approves equipment purchase, fire station repairs, trailer sale and other consent items

At its June 2 meeting the Delano City Council approved a bundle of consent items and other routine business, including equipment purchases, repairs, agreements and claims payments.
Council authorized an agreement with the Delano Royalty Organization and approved sale of a trailer titled to the City after staff explained the trailer had been titled to the City about 30 years ago and the organization acquired a new float. The Council approved purchase of a Kubota utility cab tractor and brush mower to replace an approximately 25‑year‑old Ford tractor; City Engineer Shawn Louwagie said the new unit includes “a cab, four‑wheel drive, and loader, providing additional year‑round functionality, including snow removal.” The purchase exceeded the 2026 budget by about $3,000; staff proposed covering the difference from remaining funds budgeted in 2025 equipment replacement. Mayor Holly Schrupp abstained from that vote; the motion carried.
Council approved an estimate to repair a failing sewer line and deteriorating wall discovered during flooring work at the fire station. Fire Chief Matt Van Lith said contractors found a wet area and that salt residue from a water softener discharge likely contributed to deterioration; an insurance claim was submitted but staff were advised it may be denied, so staff recommended proceeding with repairs using funds available in the Building Capital Fund.
Council also approved a temporary liquor license for the Sculpture and Blues Fest and approved city claims totaling $339,014.31 for May 20–June 2, 2026. Motions for these items were moved and seconded by councilmembers as reflected in the minutes and recorded as carried.
