KESA action plan presented; board hears student senior trip request and discusses 6th-grade athletics

KC Higley presented the district’s KESA Action Plan during the April 16 meeting, outlining suggested improvements that administrators plan to incorporate into the district’s Quality Structure beginning August 2025.
During principal reports, Jr./Sr. High Principal Leah Crane proposed a class sponsor model that follows students from 7th grade through senior year to provide continuity for scholarships and graduation planning. Crane also said she is updating the student handbook with revisions to the drug and tobacco sections.
Members of the senior class (Sydney Parks, Kenzie Nairn, Mia Miravette and Ella Krier) requested approval for a senior trip to Frontier City in Oklahoma City; students will cover tickets, bus parking, spending money and a pre-return meal while the district will provide the bus. The board unanimously approved the trip and also approved the requested graduation walk-out song, "These Are the Days" by Cory Asbury.
Superintendent Trenton Horn noted declining participation in some junior-high sports and said he will raise the possibility of allowing 6th-grade students to participate in certain sports at the league meeting on April 30. The board did not take formal action on 6th-grade participation at the meeting.
