The Stanton County Unified School District No. 452 Board of Education voted unanimously April 24 to accept the resignation of Superintendent Trenton Horn, who also served as junior high girls basketball coach. Chantry Scott moved to approve the resignation; Bobbie Ehrlich seconded and the motion carried 6-0.
Board President Lettie Nickell called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. in the SCHS Board Room. The session included three brief executive sessions on personnel matters and teacher evaluations, during which Horn was present for portions of the discussions; the board recorded returns to open session at 12:25 p.m., 12:36 p.m., and 12:41 p.m.
After accepting the resignation, board members discussed next steps for filling the superintendent vacancy. Members who had participated in the district27s previous search recommended using KASB (Kansas Association of School Boards) to assist with the process. The board directed Board Clerk Melissa Wilson to contact KASB to arrange a meeting and to handle incoming applications; the board instructed that all applications be submitted through the clerk going forward.
During the personnel discussion, Chantry Scott asked about grounds-spraying duties previously performed by Horn. Horn said he had shown Craig how to do the spraying and that Craig has been doing it for several months.
The board approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session and adjourned at 12:46 p.m. The clerk will proceed to contact KASB and the board will consider next steps for the search at a future meeting.
