The Clewiston City Commission voted to set a proposed millage rate of 6.3962 mills for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2026, adopting Resolution 2026‑40.
The finance director presented the revenue estimates and said using the proposed rate would produce about $2.5 million in ad valorem proceeds compared with roughly $2.3 million at the rollback rate. The director noted property values increased about 11 percent and staff must file the proposed rate with the property appraiser by early August so trim notices can be generated.
After discussion about the merits of adopting the rollback rate versus the proposed rate and consideration of state and local budget pressures, the commission moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it on voice vote. The commission recorded the motion approving Resolution 2026‑40 and its action will be reflected in the required public notices leading to final budget hearings.
Next steps: staff will include the adopted proposed millage on the TRIM notice and continue budget work; the commission can lower the millage at subsequent hearings but cannot raise it above the published cap without additional requirements.
