Council authorizes $72,000 purchase of Lakeview parcels for storm‑sewer repairs

The Fergus Falls City Council authorized the mayor and city administrator July 20 to sign purchase agreements with property owners Dale and Claudia Trosmick and Scott and Elizabeth Murry to acquire portions of parcels at 2410 and 2406 Lakeview Drive needed for storm‑sewer repairs.
City staff (Guy) said the city requires about 10 feet of the Murray property and 50 feet of the Trosmick property to access and repair a storm‑sewer line that bisects the parcels. The $72,000 cost will be paid from the storm‑sewer fund, which staff said has adequate funds for the purchase. Guy also said the repairs will help the city meet MS4 permit obligations and keep sediment out of the lake that serves as the water source.
A council member asked about public access to the acquired shoreline and whether the city intended to create a lakefront park; staff said the property is not readily accessible and many of the trees will be removed as part of the repair work.
The council approved the resolution by roll call.
