Jackie Sorensen named Chanhassen Senior Center coordinator and invites residents to programs

Jackie Sorensen, the new coordinator for the Chanhassen Senior Center, introduced herself and urged residents to visit the center and take part in its programs.
"Hi, I'm Jackie Sorensen," she said, noting she joined the City of Chanhassen "a little over 2 months ago as the new coordinator for the Senior Center." Sorensen said she comes from a background "working with seniors and activities and planning fun events," and that her primary aim is to "foster a place of community and connection among our community seniors."
Sorensen emphasized that the senior center is meant to be more than a place to pass time. "I just want people to understand that the senior center is not just a place to fill your time, but it is also a place to find your purpose," she said, adding that the center helps older adults remain active and engaged.
She pointed to everyday examples of the center's impact: "Some of my favorite moments here are when people find their new bestie or they try an activity they've never tried before and I see that spark on their face." Sorensen said that members in their 60s, 70s and 80s can discover new passions and friendships at the center.
On access and cost, Sorensen was explicit: "Anybody is welcome to come to the Chanhassen Senior Center. You do not have to be Chanhassen. You can live anywhere. We don't have a membership fee. Many of our events and activities are free and other ones are low cost." She thanked "the city of Chanhassen" for investing resources in creating the space and said the center provides opportunities for seniors to "give back, utilize their skills and knowledge, teach someone else and build partnerships."
Sorensen closed by inviting people to stop by: "So please stop by the senior center anytime. Come say hi and introduce yourself, and we can't wait to see you here for our programs."
