Permits and planning: The board approved three PzHAC cases: sign case 062059 for a projecting sign at the Mesilla Historic Site (staff said the sign is about two square feet and no lighting is proposed), case 062060 to reopen a historic doorway and install an ADA-accessible door (the planning commission recommended a 32.6-inch maximum to protect the historic facade; a trustee abstained and the board approved the condition), and case 062062 to place a 10×20-foot backyard shed in the historic residential zone (contractor licensed). Planning staff (Mister Salazar) presented each case and trustees approved them by roll call.
Budget and plan: The board approved Resolution 2025-64 for budget adjustments (reallocating identified funds) and adopted Resolution 2025-65, formally adopting the 2025 Comprehensive Plan; both measures passed by roll call.
Human services: Trustees approved a $10,000 support request for Adelante’s senior meals program to fund more than 1,400 home-delivered meals for seniors on a wait list and approved support for Casa Peregrinos’ pop-up markets and distribution of approximately 220 food baskets to local residents.
Energy and contracts: The board voted to approve a US Solar agreement that provides virtual solar credits and expected cost savings; the mayor noted the final credit calculations will be reviewed with the town’s utility before contract execution.
Personnel: After an executive session the board approved hiring Manny Sanchez for the marshals department, restoring full staffing for that unit.
Vote counts and process: Roll-call votes were recorded for the listed approvals; where abstentions were noted the transcript records the abstaining member and any requested temporary exits from the room. No appeals or reversals were recorded at the meeting.
What’s next: Staff will implement the approved permits and contracts and follow up on the marshals’ onboarding and training. The board also requested staff to return with additional analysis on the postponed rezoning case.
